Channing Tatum to Direct New Road Trip Movie Called Dog

Watching Channing Tatum‘s occupation moves has been intriguing and inspiring. Breaking by means of in teenager-friendly titles like Stage Up and She’s the Male, Tatum has because diversified his impression, slaying in comedies like 21 Bounce Road, somber dramas like Foxcatcher, and, like, each individual contemporary Steven Soderbergh movie. Now, Tatum would make the upcoming logical action — driving the digital camera. As documented by Deadline, he’ll be making his directorial debut with an unorthodox-sounding street trip comedy called Pet.

Tatum will co-direct the movie with Reid Carolin, who has prepared and generated several of Tatum’s recent hits, including Magic Mike and Logan Lucky. The two also wrote the script alongside one another, along with Tatum’s longtime assistant Brett Rodriguez. It sounds more tonally challenging than your common street trip comedy, with its plot description promising to explore themes of grief, redemption, and PTSD.

Army Ranger Briggs (Tatum) has a pet, Lulu. And the two have a mission: Travel down the Pacific Coastline Freeway in time to attend the funeral of Briggs’ greatest friend — and Lulu’s former handler. Together the way, they’ll get into all types of shenanigans: eccentric pet psychics, intense cannabis farmers, and some traditional buddy-image “driving each other insane” company (other than, you know, just one of them is a pet). But they’ll also teach each other lessons and aid each other expand.

Dog sounds like it has the possible to be an indie-crossover hit — distinct sufficient to enjoy to cinephiles, crowd-satisfying sufficient to enjoy to general audiences. It also sounds like a combination of several of Tatum’s passions and successes. We’ve found the actor realize success in broad comedy, incredibly nuanced drama, and the depictions of interior workings of guys who have predominantly bodily tasks. Dog seems to be to merge all of this and more — the excellent decision for a directorial debut.
